Yusufeyyah Masjid

Yusufeyyah Masjid

Serving the Community since 1867

Establishment

After Slavery was abolished in 1838, muslims slowly came to settle in Wynberg and there grew a need to establish a place of worship. At first a wooden house was used as a salaah venue, with Emam Badroedien leading the salaah. As the community grew, a bigger place was needed.
In 1866 Yusuf Ryklief donated a piece of land for a masjid to be build and it was completed in 1867, and extended in 1887. The Yusufeyyah masjid is named by joining the names Yusuf & Safia.
Emam Abdurakieb served as the 1st Emam from 1867 to 1925.

Maintenance

The masjid itself needs regular financial support and contributions to sustain the daily running cost as well as the continued maintenance. Projects are focused on the upkeep of the external structure and internal fixtures. Click for contact details
